How To Create A Floating Menu In Wix (2022)

Hey there, fellow web enthusiasts! If you're on the hunt to sprinkle some fun and functionality onto your Wix website, you're in the right place. Today, we're diving into the world of floating menus—those helpful little navigators that stick by your side as you scroll down the depths of a site. They're trendy, practical, and add a sleek flair to any web project. Plus, they're not too tricky to create when you're using Wix!

We’ll walk you through the process step-by-step—no jargon or complicated mumbo jumbo. Just friendly guidance to help you create something awesome online. So grab a comfy seat, maybe a coffee, and let's get started!

Why a Floating Menu?

Before we plunge into the nitty-gritty, let’s chat about why you’d want to add a floating menu to your site. Besides looking super cool, floating menus provide great usability perks:

1. Enhanced Navigation: Visitors can navigate easily without having to scroll back up to the top.

2. Consistent Branding: Keep your brand logo visible at all times.

3. Improved User Experience: Floating menus can reduce the bounce rate by simplifying site navigation.

In short, it’s a win-win for both user experience and design aesthetics. Now, let's get to the good stuff—how to actually create one in Wix!

Getting Started with Wix Editor

So, you’re ready to create a floating menu? Fantastic! Here’s a step-by-step guide to get you started:

Step 1: Open Your Wix Editor

First things first: head over to your Wix website. Once you're there, launch the Wix Editor. This is your creative playground where the magic happens!

Open your dashboard, select the site you want to edit, and click "Edit Site." The Wix Editor should load up, and you’ll be ready to work your design magic.

Step 2: Select Your Menu

Your website may already have an existing menu. If so, all you need to do is find it!

If your horizontal menu is at the top of your page, like mine often is, simply click on it. This is your starting point for creating a floating menu because, well, every menu needs a base!

Step 3: Pin That Menu!

Here's where we get a bit technical:

- Right-Click on the menu. Be observant because a nifty little option will appear—it's called "Pin to Screen.”

- Once you see it, Click on "Pin to Screen." Now, your static menu has the potential of sweet floating action.

This "Pin to Screen" feature is what allows your menu to float as the user scrolls. It pinpoints your menu to the browser window rather than the page itself.

Step 4: Adjust Offsets

Now, this is where customization really kicks in:

- You can adjust the Horizontal Offset—that’s how far left or right on your screen your menu sits.

- Likewise, adjust the Vertical Offset to change your menu's vertical positioning.

Experiment with these settings to suit your design. It’s your palette, your choice!

Step 5: Save Your Design

The internet’s golden rule applies here—always save your work. Click the 'X' to close your editing options and remember to hit that save button. Now, when you scroll down your page, your menu should stay visible and dancing along as a floating figure.

Ta-da! You have your very own floating menu on Wix!

Wrapping Up

Creating a floating menu might sound complex, but as you've seen, it’s a pretty straightforward process with Wix. Harnessing the "Pin to Screen" option opens up a realm of creative possibilities for your site design, keeping it both aesthetically pleasing and functionally brilliant.
